Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay) Dentists appointed to the Medical Staff of the VA Finger Lakes Healthcare System and assigned to the Dental Clinic are independent licensed practitioners who hold a full and unrestricted license in any state. Dentists will be graduates of an accredited dental school and where applicable, will be graduates of an accredited residency in the applicable dental general or specialty residency. The provider will perform only those privileges for which approval has been granted by the Medical Center Director prospectively and in writing. Privileges will be renewed semiannually or when additional/new training qualifies the dentist to perform other procedures not already approved. A dentist provides direct patient care in a hospital or outpatient setting to adults with or without acute and chronic medical conditions and serves as a consultant to other healthcare providers. The incumbent is assigned as a staff dentist to the Dental Clinic and reports to the Chief, Dental Service and to Assistant Chief, Dental Clinic. The incumbent will function as an equal member within the larger team of staff dentists and auxiliary staff. As a staff dentist, the incumbent will be responsible for providing consultation and treatment within the scope of their specific clinical privileges. As a staff dentist, the incumbent may provide education and training to members of the medical staff through various conferences, committees, and lecture series. The incumbent may be assigned administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational, and administrative committees, task groups or special projects.
