Jefferson County Department of Health is seeking a well-qualified, motivated Clinical Dentist to diagnose and provide dental treatment. This includes performing an initial assessment of a patient by collecting various health-related information, conducting X-rays, examining the teeth, etc. Clinical Dentists also perform a variety of dental procedures to include regular cleanings, cavity treatments, extractions, root canals, and crown placement. They may follow up with patients who have had advanced procedures performed, and may perform follow-up examinations to include taking impressions and/or administering medications or additional treatments. Clinical Dentists are also responsible for the supervision of employees/staff to include assigning and reviewing work, scheduling subordinate staff, making hiring recommendations, and training staff. They are responsible for maintaining the professional requirements of the field, and may often assist in the training and education of students who are conducting their rotations at the Jefferson County Department of Health. Clinical Dentists may often serve on boards or committees to assist with special initiatives and goals related to the agency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Alabama or successful completion of a regional board exam honored by the Alabama State of Dental Examiners as senior year dental student. Must provide evidence of satisfactory completion of board exam prior to contingency hire, and must provide License to practice dentistry in Alabama prior to start date.
Experience recording clinical information such as notes, charting, coding, etc. in an electronic dental records software program (Dentrix, Eagle Soft, etc.).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County Department of Health. These qualifications may be considered by the Health Department when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Experience practicing dentistry with both a pediatric and adult population.
Experience performing basic oral surgery procedures.
Experience performing endodontic procedures.
Experience working with digital radiographs (i.e., x-rays).
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, and providing feedback and/or training.
Coordinates dental education efforts by providing instruction/training to dental and assisting students, completing documentation related to performance and overseeing performance using profession expertise in order to assist students in the completion of their requirements.
Performs patient assessments by interviewing patients and reviewing medical records and other relevant information using various resources in order to propose a treatment plan and to prepare for the appropriate procedure.
Performs dental procedures by using various dental equipment and techniques in order to provide dental services to patients in accordance with established professional standards and guidelines.
Provides service to internal and/or external customers.
Procures and/or manages inventory (i.e., supplies and equipment) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.
Performs sanitation and maintenance activities on patient areas and dental equipment using sanitizing equipment and products following established safety guidelines in order to minimize exposure to infections and safety hazards.
Performs various administrative activities by creating and updating files, maintaining documents, and tracking information using various forms and computer systems in order to maintain patient records and prepare for appointments.
Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and/or guidelines.
